do you know arte? the tv channel arte is what i´d call a life-saver in a sea of junk that floods the tv. arte shows some good documentaries, dialogs on actual politic situations and every now and then they got a good movie coming up. even if i do not understand french at all, i like the mix up of german and french that occurs on arte occasionally.
i liked arte when i first found it back then when i have been a tv watcher. nowadays i boycott the tv whereever i can (can you believe how hard it is to keep this up?). the internet shows even more, so no need for the old tube.
one issue i had with arte is that they serve so many excentric interests that i not share by default, that often it was not interesting to watch it. and the stuff i´d like to watch was showed at times that i could not cope with.
good news. now, arte is on tv 24h and not like all the past years only at night. but they even launched arte+7 where you can stream the shows of the last seven days on demand. this is a very cool concept, and i like to check back every week to see what i missed, so to say. the page got a timeline to navigate trough the week and every show has a preview clip of ten seconds.sometimes there´s interesting stuff that you see at “last chance” what feels a bit like watching tv. i mean like “i gotta see this because who knows when it will come up again and i don´t want to be the only person in the world who missed it” that you get when deeply in the tv stream. not that i would have ever had problems like this.
two shows that i like are zoom europa and philosophie. the one covers actual development in brussels, which is very interesting, and the other format shows a dialog between philosophs of our time that cover one topic per show and print the important names and cites on screen and it appears very fresh. take a look for yourself.
